It's a fifteen minute walk to school so we catch a slice of daily life in Lima. And, as in Alameda, we have found several people on the way who greet us. Seems that neighbors can be anywhere. We have always considered ourselves lucky and the luck seems to have held so far here in Lima. |
After a month's vacation, Finn and Sam have finally started school and I'm happy to report the first week went smoothly. I give them both a lot of credit for being able to successfully go into a foreign situation with a different language and customs. It helps that science and English are in their native language and both of their teachers are bilingual. Most schools here put ours in the states to shame in that they all have varying degrees of bilingual instruction (the economy is in large part controlled by multinational corporations, English is the language of business, and personal economic success is linked to how well versed one is in English). The staff is exceedingly nice and appears to want to help the boys succeed.

Dear Marnie and family, glad to know the boys are adjusting to the different en irons the way they are. What an adventure at their ages! I have European nephews (4 of them) that have spent a year in Fez, Morocco, where their mother has a teaching post at the university. These children all grow up as citizens of the world, rather than one country.

So happy to see you have settled (including the purple kitchen!!). It is great how well you all are adjusting. Funny just yesterday, I did see Sam's little chinese friend playing with his sister running through your yard just as if Sam was there playing with them.

Thank you for sharing the stories and photos. What a magnificent, heart and mind opening experience fr the boys! How wonderful to learn at a young age that "my way" of doing things is not the only way, or even the best way.

Great! When might we expect a guest post from one of the boys? I'd love to hear their perspective so far.
